Where It All Began

When I think about my journey with type 2 diabetes, it doesn’t really start with me.
It goes back to my childhood — to my beloved grandmother.

She had diabetes too, and I remember how confusing and frustrating it was for her.

Back then, doctors didn’t talk about carbs. All they said was, “Cut the sugar.”

So that’s what she tried to do. She swapped out regular sugar for sweeteners but kept eating her delicious handmade pastries, bread, rice, pasta, and potatoes — all the foods she loved and had always eaten.

No one told her those foods also turn into sugar in the body.

She did her best, but over time, things got worse. Eventually, she had a stroke and spent two and a half years bedridden.

It was heartbreaking.

We didn’t understand back then how important diet really is — not just avoiding sugar, but truly understanding carbs.

Years later, when I was diagnosed with diabetes too, I knew I had to go deeper.

I started researching, learning, trying, failing — and trying again.

That’s when I realized:

💡 It’s not enough to just stop eating sweets — you also have to rethink carbs.

That includes:

  • bread
  • pasta
  • rice
  • potatoes
  • many fruits (especially high-sugar ones like bananas or grapes)

These were all part of my daily meals, and I never realized how they were quietly working against me.

So now I’m on a different path.
I’m exploring low-carb alternatives, trying new recipes, and learning how to live a life that keeps my blood sugar in check — without feeling like I’m constantly missing out.

This blog is where I’ll share the journey: the good days, the struggles, and the real stuff.

If you’re going through something similar, you’re not alone.

💛 Let’s figure it out together.
